Getting married next year and want a more stable job. My partner and I are ok with frequent travel and relocation. My concerns are about layoffs and pipeline of work. Any companies you recommend?

IBM is hire and fire. The Other B4 are better if you are ok with Consulting

like

I’m concerned about layoffs that I see from Big 4 posted on here. I would not consider joining Big 4 right now.

The best job security and assurance is in how good you do your job !

I may be utopian but I firmly believe Firms will do their best to retain the right talent even when the economics are challenged.
Right talent does not always mean the depth of expertise but very much means Adaptability and ability to Learn

You don’t feel like IBM is stable?

likefunny

Same in all multi disciplinary services companies.

Honestly the federal government. Corporate jobs, even high-powered ones are not stable.

like

No such thing as “stability” unless you are a top performer.

likefunny

Even then.....

Go federal. The economy goes up or down and we aren’t affected. We also don’t travel. Could be a win win for you.

like

Pay is not actually less for federal

If those are your skills and you’re good at your job, you shouldn’t worry about layoffs

like

PwC is pretty stable, definitely don’t hear about layoffs as much compared with Deloitte/IBM. You probably will work in a smaller team and work would not be as diverse but that’s not what you’re looking for.

like

Are you nuts?? Tech Advisory is letting people go in IPS and CM. Some of those people are billable right now.
Absolutely would not recommend Advisory at PwC. I cannot speak for Audit/Risk/Tax

like

What are your skills OP ?

I’m looking myself and I’m hearing from my leadership. There are several other people like me too. But if you really care to talk further then send a DM.

Boomer. I am in between jobs. Laid off in 10/21 after 16+ yrs, with an ABA firm. RIF. Still on excellent terms. Took my time living off generous package and didn’t seriously start applying until 01/22. Made a rookie mistake and accepted first offer.
Turns out job wasn’t as advertised. Mutual parting of ways 3/22. Due diligence is critical.
Now interviewing a LOT. Some temp work, I still have “it”. I relate to all gens. Willing to mentor AND learn from all. Tech savvy, CTE from day one. Leads?

Boyfriend has seemed to be dropping a ton on me lately, even after I got bad news that my company is t doing so hot this week and layoffs are approaching. First it was that we may be moving to another state for his job, then it was that his brother may need to move in with us for a few months after he graduates

It’s just a bit overwhelming at this time and I’m not sure how to communicate through all of this being thrown at me. 3 yrs together and we were friends for many years before that.

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?

Hi, received an offer from another Big4 in Amsterdam (currently working in Eastern Europe), but relocating, I’m concerned about potential layoffs in the coming period being the last to join the team.

Pretty sure the answer is self explanatory but first year with real status. Does Marriott status reset Jan 1? For instance if I need 10 nights for Platnium am I SOL if I stay 9 nights by Dec 31?

Looking for referrals for a Technical Sales Executive position that is Remote (USA), possibly in the industrial sector. Last year I made $109k at AT&T so I'm hoping to at least stay in the same ball park but want a change. I have lots of experience selling IT/telecom, but I also have a Mechanical Engineering background so I'm a good fit for a wide range of technical sales. I have been thinking a role in the industrial sector with a longer sales cycle may be a good fit, can travel up to 25%

I’ve been interviewing for new positions to leave PA. But in my current position, we’ve been adding quite a few new projects (and our team is partner, two staff, and me) that will probably start over the next couple of months. I don’t think my boss has any idea I’m looking to leave - anything I should do to not feel guilty about potentially leaving them short staffed with a ton of work? Is this something you think about when looking to leave?

HELP!

PSA - We are headed into a self-imposed economic slow down. Now is not the time to lateral but if you do, I would make sure you are at a recession-proof practice or firm. The top law firms will be okay (they always are) but if you are part of a larger group of associates with no work, you are likely to be axed. Latham did it in the 2008 and 2011 and it will happen again. If you are an associate or really anyone but a rainmaker, you are expendable.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Hi fishies. I have a ton of interviews coming up soon including a case interview at EY within their Innovation and Experience Design practice for Digital Strategy Manager. I am super comfortable with CX, design thinking, etc which are the types of projects I would be working on BUT I am absolutely terrible in case interviews. I was hoping it would be based on CX or design but my understanding is there is some revenue component idk. Anyone have any insight? I would greatly greatly appreciate it!
