You’re prob doing this already, but I always try to research the company’s products and form an opinion on them (things I like/dislike, how I would improve them). I’ve found that this prep just helps me get in the correct mindset for product interviews and also helps you learn more about the company. Also practice some standard PM questions (e.g. design x product?) and common estimation problems.
I found the Product Alliance Hacking the PM interview course really helpful for Zillow’s interview process. Their answer quality was so good, that I literally found myself watching the videos, then recording myself trying to give the same response, and playing it back. With all interviews being virtual now, this helped me a lot more than mock interviews to get up to par quickly. I ended up going to Microsoft since the offer was better, but DM if you have any questions. I can try to dig up my notes from the Zillow interview.
I found the Product Alliance course extremely helpful for transitioning from consulting to product. But obviously just doing lots of mock interviews for practice is the most important thing. I'd recommend going on glassdoor to dig up past zillow pm interview questions and using those to do mocks with.
Be ready for a lot of cross-questioning on their current product. If you’re new to the PM, would recommend you to understand the difference between User Flow and User Journey - a major challenge for those who are new to this field. The interviewer is not looking for a UI/UX critic, but rather someone who can identify large gaps in the journey and map business metrics to the same.
Good luck! :)
Be able to explain an experience you have successfully using data/metrics to make a decision. Extra points if you also played a role in defining the parameters of the data and were able to make a decision based on the results.
Hardest part about being a PM is making (and justifying) the “right” decision when there is no clear best option. People I have interviewed who demonstrated preference for data driven decision making almost always make it to the short list.
