Welcome to the world of large corporations and their bureaucracies. You stand a better chance of breaking into Fort Knox than you are getting into Micro$oft. I know it's nice to have them on your resume if you're lucky enough to get your foot in the door, but sometimes it's just not worth wasting your time having to deal with their convoluted hiring process.
It is not just one company and it is not just young recruiters. Unfortunately in the world of recruiting, most of the time “ghosting” is a normal form of communication. The only flush letters I receive are from applications like Workday, so AI is sending them out once the position is filled or your resume does not meet the minimum AI match. Like most out there, I have applied to over 100 companies and except for one or two recruiters out there and the automated flush letters, I have been “ghosted” for all the other applications.
I would love to change this, but unfortunately the feeling today is it is something that won’t be changed and we the candidates just have to put up with it.
@senior IT Program Manager 1 - spot on! Unfortunately This is the way of the world now when seeking employment.
I got to the final round at Microsoft once and was ghosted by a recruiter. He finally responded only when I copied in the hiring manager.
How can we find the HM email?
Yep so I interviewed at Microsoft, they had some re orgs and went silent for a month or two and came back heavy, speeding up a new round of interviews with an offer. I found out that the persons role I was taking over, decided not to leave the role so then they wanted me for the role he didn’t move into.
Ah Microsoft !
Yep.
The younger generation of recruiters will rather ghost you than deliver the sordid truth. This happens across the board, not just Microsoft specific.
yep. and they’ll have you jump through hoops to customize your resume and ghost you. common with young recruiters
Amazon ghosted me after my 2nd interview
Thanks for the inputs folks. Wanted to update the thread, so I actually did reach out to the HM and they said they went for an internal candidate. Dint make it through for this role
Sorry OP!
You went through the interviews and still got ghosted?
I was ghosted after getting an offer. Hiring manager had another favorite candidate.
I was ghosted by a Google recruiter after the second scheduled call she didn't attend. Nothing, not even an apology.
Same here after interviewing with Duolingo in August
Yep. Very common, even if you're a former top-performing MSFT employee wanting to return.
AWS is always good to have on your resume. Be aware that the workload can be intense (work/life balance varies wildly depending on the team).
I was ghosted after the AA interview,
Not respectful! We spent 6 hours for interview sessions but they don’t respond at all!
Speaking from personal experience, I was ghosted for a couple of months before getting an offer
Following up is always good. It shows initiative on your part. Don't be afraid to follow up and mention that you've had little response from the recruiter.
I was sitting in their lobby waiting to be interviewed by the hiring manager and was ghosted. So I would say it is.
Wow in person interview?
You dodged a bullet. MSFT requires almost everyone to use MS Windows.
Im afraid is not only MS at this point :\
I mean, if you are in a stable right now, keep it up and move on
this is currently happening to me - after spending 3 hours in final round interviews
They ghosted me in the past too. No callback no email no nothing.
Oh I didn’t get an interview. My friend referred me and my application went into the void
Yes, Ive been ghosted by Microsoft on two occasions over the years
