God I had one of those today... Ersk me to the nth degree... Why do managers always say “Can you just sit in for support?” Then immediately go silent and look at HR to lead the entire difficult conversation 😭 when was the last time you had this? And how do I avoid being in the middle of these...

Set expectations on the spot - “yes, I’m happy to support but I want to be clear that this is your conversation, which you will lead and as you requested - I’m here to support not run the call”.

If they do that to you, after the call you need to call them right away go “so.. what was that?” And informally mentor them on it. If they’re not getting it - you can say “great, sounds like there’s some upskilling required here” and get them to do manager training.

You don’t get to manage people and obfuscate difficult conversations, but specially hot potato style to HR who doesn’t have any context. This is a pet peeve.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Hi community, humbly seeking professional HR advice. I recently joined my company’s HR team. In an informal conversation, a senior HRBP, considered a peer, called 2 of our fellow HR colleagues “worthless.” I should have rebuked her then & there but was so caught off guard. This person is 20 years my senior. In the same conversation this person advocated for me on a separate matter & complimented my performance. I am not sure what course of action to take at this time. Distraught & unsure.
