I think thats smart. This profession doesn’t pay well for amount of bs we are required to deal with
I almost did the myself. Spoke to a few friends who left their jobs in finance/accounting roles and did a boot camp and I know bare making $120K in NYC. Never work past 630, never work weekends.
Two colleagues went to a coding boot camp last year. They’re now software engineers at a tech startup in nyc and making 140k + bonus.
Maybe I should rethink this ide
OP, it might not be a bad idea to pitch your resume for a coding job at Intuit or at least see if there's openings. There are very few coders and engineers who understand accounting and that's sort of the niche Intuit is in. They've got an incredible HQ next to Google.
Everyone I've known who was smart who did the boot camp made it successful. There is only one guy I know who was more dead set on gaming who had to go back to accounting.
If you can sustain yourself during the boot camp and some time after go for it - engineering and coding work life balance beats public accounting 3,000%. Something I wish I did but it's way too late for me.
I am also trying to learn code. Not necessarily to leave now, but it’s a great idea. Go for it and learn.

EY2, I’m learning through courses on Udemy for now. A lot of cheap courses on there if you’re committed to studying
RIP Senior Associate 1 :(
Going to do an undergrad degree in software engineering?
No. I’m going to be self taught. I’m already at a Big 4 and will have my CPA before the end of the year
My thoughts exactly Deloitte 2. I’m also trying to be an entrepreneur one day and haven’t learned a lot of applicable skills aside from soft skills at the B4. Why not learn something more in demand? Thanks for the heads up EY1!
What coding bootcamps are legit? There’s so many out there...
Thanks for the tip Finance Director 1. I’ll look into it in the future. Yeah, I’m not trying to be a game coder so hopefully it works out better for me lol

I think what people should acknowledge before jumping on the CS train is that coding is not something that comes intuitively to some and you will find yourself struggling a lot to keep up if that is you. Recommend taking some intro courses to test the waters before you jump ship. In addition, software engineering is one of those careers that start high and plateaus quickly if you're not the top of the top with technical knowledge. That being said, the starting salary is more than enough to be comfortable so depending on your long term goals that might be fine as is.
