Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

So I've been working at my company for 8 months now as a business analyst. Both senior consultants on my project are leaving, with no replacements in sight, so the project work is most likely going to fall to me. I am already doing most of the work of a full fledged consultant as defined by the companies description. I'm only getting paid 55k a year which I'm being told by other employees is below industry standard (they take around 70% of my billable rate) and I'm feeling kind of stuck. Advise?

Hey all - first year associate here… I’ve met my hours requirement for this year (requirement is 1900 and am currently at around 2050 with billable hours - approx. 2160 with non billable admin hours) and I am just tired. Is it okay to just “disappear” during the holidays (thanksgiving week, week of Christmas) and let partners and senior associates know I am not available? At this point I don’t care about making more money - I just want to sleep, read a good trashy book, and cuddle with my dog.

I’m so far off my requirement and worried. 🤦🏼‍♀️😭

Mostly to vent, but wonder if anyone else has had to deal with this…my team consists of a partner, shareholder, 3 associates, myself and a legal assistant. We have a busy docket, 70 active litigation files. For over a year I have been dealing with inexperienced legal assistants, mostly coming from other areas of law. The partner relies heavily on me to clean up the messes, fix the mistakes, etc., and HR is on me for doing too much admin, i.e., non-billable work.

What are firm’s known billable requirements? Is there a ramp up period?

Is it just me or the average billable work in infrastructure transactions has blown off steam in the last couple of weeks?

Any info regarding Zuckerman Spaeder? For example, salary, work-life, billable requirements, and whether the firm is making its way back to in-person now. Would greatly appreciate any insight!

6th year associate here at a TX mid-law firm in a niche litigation practice. I am feeling burnt out with litigation, in particular the discovery process. I enjoy the niche area of law and enjoy substantive writing and in-court appearances, but I am struggling with the thought of doing litigation for the rest of my career. It doesn’t appear there is an opportunity for me to transition to a transactional side here at the firm in the niche practice group. Any suggestions on how to get out of lit.?
