If you decided to stay there might be a stigma that your willing to leave (ask if this damages the relationship?) for money and also your performance bonus / base increase next CRT may be adjusted if they compensate you now (I would get confirmation that it does not). If you go to the other side you might have to rebuild your relationships but at least there is no stigma/tension in the relationship that your gonna leave. Just might want to think how they could screw your later on is all.

I almost left from PwC to Deloitte when I was a senior. I was not countered with a retention bonus, but a early promotion. I had already verbally accepted the offer and this was in my last meeting to put in my notice expecting to be walked out. I ended up staying, got the promotion and overall have been very happy with the decision as well as the economic difference between if I had gone and my increased pay from the promotion, manager milestone, etc.
