Hi Fishes,
This is on behalf of a friend .Can someone please put on some light on the below query ?
Company : Morgan Stanley
Designation : Associate - Global
Role : Compliance Technology Strategy
Division : Legal and Compliance
How is this position for a BE+ MBA , total 3+ years of IT experience in top MNC.What would be the expected CTC and next hierarchy designation ( after a promotion ) ? Morgan Stanley
Hi there. Ex Deloitte Sr Mgr here, currently in tech pre sales (SaaS / MarTech). Recently spoke to both Salesforce and Adobe recruiters for roles that I thought were lateral moves (Sr SA / Sr SC), therefore I did not proceed with the selection process. The recruiters from both companies told me they typically hire at that level, and people are considered for promotion to Principal in 1 to 2 years. I found that odd. Is that right? What’s the typical TC for SAs and SCs there? (15+ yrs exp).

You owe them literally nothing. Being employed is 100% transactional. There is no such thing as being an *ssh*le when it’s business and not personal.
This! And it sounds like they might have been underpaying you anyway…? Even if your manager and team love you, corporate wouldn’t care and lay you off in an instant if needed.
Rising Star
At least a day.
Go do you. It’s your life. Your earning potential. Don’t think for a sec it matters to them you were under paid to begin with.
The fact that you got countered to stay already puts you on the agency flight risk radar, which usually corresponds with the top of the list for layoffs. I wouldn’t give them more than 6 months, especially if the title bump is just a bump without real growth. With the way hiring processes have been dragging on in the industry, I’m sure by the time you land something solid it’ll be past the 6 month mark.
I am going to disagree. They went to bat for you and got you a counter. If you are unhappy with your brand/situation talk to your EVP and see if there is a workable solution. Stay at least 1 year from the counter.
Svp is a company shill. You don’t owe anyone anything and leaving whenever you want won’t hurt you a bit in the long term
Hard pass. Of course you as an svp would want your person to stick around. But paying them below market rate to begin with shows how much they valued you before. What makes you think you wouldn’t have to go through it again to get another raise or pay you your worth
At the end of the day. These people don’t care about you. They are probably paying you below market rate with the 20% raise. Cause bringing on a new person would just cost them more than the 20% they gave you. Again. It’s your life and you feel comfortable with what you want to do, but if it was me. No one would care if you can find a better opportunity. Take it. It would only work out in your favor. Your choice your life
I hear ya. Just make sure you’re being nice about it on your way out. And keep friendly. I think people you want to keep friends with would understand you either came across an opportunity for experience you can’t pass on or make more moment cause you need to save, family, your own life, whatever…And if they didn’t understand. were they really looking out for you?
If the promotion included a title bump, I think staying 6 months to a year helps hide the fact that it was a counter.
Agencies don’t think twice about ditching employees. You shouldn’t think twice about ditching them. They’re the ones who continue to write the rules of this game.
Leave whenever. They’d lay you off today if they needed to
3 months is good.
Could aim for 8 months
if you can’t get to a year at least it sort of rounds up to a year. more than half a year. (there is something to be said for people going to bat for promos, and you may want to work with them later)
