Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

You’re good
At least you have a conscience to even ask this on here. Kudos to you! Very rare in our line of business.
Worried for no reason
Sounds like you’re already well on the partner track at bcg then!

The only way they would know is if during the background check they ask whether you were voluntarily or involuntarily terminated. A variant of this question is whether you are eligible for rehire.
Most background check firms only look for dates of employment and last title.
I have learnt from HR at McKinsey that the only two pieces of information they give out in ref checks are your employment period and the title you hold during the tenure. So basically chances are very very small.
I know someone who was CTLed and later ended up at BCG and has since been promoted. Don’t disclose
Nope 🤐

Chances are quite high now. I'm sure somebody reads this and can put the puzzle pieces together.
If you didn't explicitly say that you hadn't been counseled out, you didn't technically lie.
Oh sorry let me also add in my opinion- yeah chances are ain’t no way OP is going to be “found out” lol yeah they’re totally fine. I was just stating there is always that tiny minute possibility haha so I agree with you D1
I moved. Don’t disclose. You will be successful… the best of luck!
Technically you’re still a McKinsey employee too, no? I wasn’t CTL’ed from McKinsey, moved to BCG, and still couldn’t shake the perception at BCG that I was only there because I’d gotten CTLed from McKinsey. Even offered to connect the BCG office head with my McKinsey PD manager.
All that aside, they won’t find out you were CTLed from a background check, but it’s not unlikely someone at BCG will hear about your performance. There are enough relationships between people at the firms (b-school classmates, people who switch firms, etc.) that someone at BCG could hear you were a low performer at McKinsey. Despite that, I still wouldn’t disclose to BCG.
It’s normal to do some DD before staffing someone (or being staffed by someone). And people talk. My smaller US BCG office had five ex-McKinsey people alone and I was pitched by BCG as part of a team to a client I’d served while at McKinsey and the prospective client shared their view on me. Bottom line, it’s a small world and you can’t count on no one knowing how you did at a past employer
We are mercenaries at best. Be like the Swiss (no offense to my Swiss peeps)and go where your loyalty is paid in gold.

Did you actually lie, or was it just an omission? 😅 You didn't need to pledge under oath that culture/values was the *only* reason you needed a change of scenery.

Very few people are ever honest about why they are leaving. Case in point, most people leave because of a sh*tty manager. Why do they say they leave? Looking for growth opportunities, it’s not about leaving that org so much as it is coming to this org, culture, exciting new product developments in the target company. We all lie a little. It’s the same thing with why this company. They have to know we are going to give them a fictional narrative and they expect the song and dance.
Well I mean technically you’re not lying OP - McK no longer valued you enough to want you to continue contributing to their culture…
It’s all a matter of perspective at the end of the day. But in all seriousness as others have mentioned I wouldn’t worry about it the background check primarily is in place to verify employment dates and most recent title

Don't disclose anything. Move on.

Why do people always want to tell on themselves? DONT NEGOTIATE AGAINST YOURSELF.
Also, prob don’t post this on FB lol
wait why? serious question
Congrats on the new gig, wishing you luck and hope the personal issues are behind you
Never been MBB, but isn’t the whole concept of being CTL’d to differentiate from being fired, so that you aren’t lying? If you had serious performance issues or violated some policy, wouldn’t you be straight up fired instead? I thought the message was “you should leave on your own accord so that you can truthfully tell other employers that AND we will help you leave to support our brand because you are still a good employee, an opportunity we don’t give to those we straight up fire”? Yes other firms like BCG know what that means and would probably want to know, but unless you are directly asked, “we’re you CTL’d” I don’t think the reason you gave is a lie?
Don’t need to disclose anything, just come over - get promoted and no one will question you - most peers will ask though why you left or whats the difference so be prepped for those questions but otherwise no one will care
OP - you will be fine. Take care of yourself, get a break and give it all at the new place. Remember, your loyalty is to your family and your sports team!
Look at it this way. McK said their culture and values did not align with your working style. At BCG, they approach cases in a different way, so hopefully, your thought and leadership style will align better. There are many folks who are hopping due to CTLs.

I don’t really see too many people hopping to other competitors due to CTL/involuntary transition…it usually means consulting life/burn is not for you. The job isn’t much different between any MBB.
