Points: united > American > delta; customer service: delta > united > American; flight timeliness: delta > united > American; NYC airports: nwa (united) > JFK > lga (delta). Points are the most important to me so I would go with United.
This all depends on where you're based out of. For example, I cannot fly delta if I'm based in of OHare. I cannot fly United if I'm based out of Atlanta. I cannot fly anything but American if I'm based out of Dallas.
You don't have an option to choose which carrier. It's basically what city you're based out of. I don't even want to earn points anyways if I can't redeem the points for good flights out of my city. And I don't want to take horrible connecting flights to earn points.
OP what city are you based out of
Def recc United regardless of miles. I've had terrible flights with Delta. One time the emergency exit lights were going off mid-flight for several minutes. None of the staff said anything. Felt scary. Would never fly Delta again

In today's exchange rate environment, an ever more true expression :)
I am actually in Jersey city, 20 mins from Newark. So United and EWR it is. Thanks fam!!
Delta all day
Delta
Everyone will complain about one carrier or another. You will not not find any complaints about any carrier anywhere.
@D2 NYC. So I can take any of United, Delta, AA.
NWA, D3? Surely you mean EWR. Loved the United flights out of EWR. Flew out of JFK once on JetBlue. Talk about an airport in the nowhere. LGA is having construction issues that cause terrible delays, esp when flying United (plus the airport itself sucks).
United.
Flying out of JFK is only cool if you want shake shack and to buy a new Tumi suitcase every time you fly out. If not, fly LGA. I leave my house at 6am for a 7pm flight.
Where in NYC do you live.. Newark can be very inconvenient if you live on the east side. Laguardia despite the construction can be a blessing in terms of location, in which you might want to try delta. If you are on the west side, you could pull of Newark
