Had a follow-up call with a client who absolutely LOVED our solution...then revealed their budget is half what we charge. Awkward. How do you recover smoothly from that price shock moment?

Sometimes when I hit this scenario I propose a phased approach and sort of here is phase one or an light weight version of this given your cost (if that’s a possibility for you).

Is it possible for them to customize the package? Maybe they don't need all the services that you offer and they can pay for what they need. Only, of course, if you really want to work with them.

I always like to get an idea of the client's budget before we start because of this reason. It's a different level of awkward.

Make sure you both agree on the scope and what’s critical vs what’s a bonus or a “nice-to-have”. Sometimes we get carried away with bells and whistles that have no substantial value for the customer.

Had a salary discussion with headhunter, who really lowballed me and told that the employer is not going to pay more than X.
The final interview is scheduled for tomorrow should I be expecting any salary negotiation during the final interview or after or is the number that I informally agreed to with a headhunter is set in stone?
How bad is it if I refuse to accept the offer? Will I be banned from working with that headhunting firm?

Dear All Fisbowls,

I have a query. Request all of yours suggestion and if you have done something similar to this please share.

You have resigned and have offer in hand suppose 15 fixed.
Meanwhile you get another offer but they will give around 17 fixed.
I am thinking to quote my in hand offer as 17 fixed with changes in it and share it with them.
So that they can give me around 20 fixed.
Request to share honest detail here.

Is it common for an SE to need to do analyst-style research for a POV/POC? This research helps guides our team of analysts in configuring the product’s environment for the POC. As an SE, I’m tasked with this research since I’m customer-facing but our analysts are not. Idea being that I can apply knowledge of the customer’s requirements.

Currently a Solutions Consultant at Pegasystems.

I am interviewing at and considering making a jump to
Oracle as a Specialist Solutions Consultant.

The reason for my move is currently at Pega SCs are treated more as AEs or Account Managers. The role at Oracle would be more of a true SC position. I also feel that Oracle will look BETTER on a resume and someone as young as me would have BETTER programs in place to train me and give me the foundation needed to be a successful SC.

Thoughts?
