Had a meeting with a potential new client today. They kept referring to me as the boss's "girl." Took a lot of self-control not to correct them with my actual title... Does this kind of sexism still happen to others?

I’m sure it still happens, many people are ignorant especially from the older generation. Which I’m guessing the potential client was. Not that it excuses his ignorance. I wouldn’t let it get to you and keep working your way up the ladder. :)

It's tricky when it's a client. I'd probably keep my mouth shut. But if it's internal, I will absolutely be correcting. I am no one's girl.

If someone referred to me that way in my boss’s presence, he would quickly and firmly correct them.

I started a new job last monday; this is my first corporate job after college. My senior manager ( my manager’s manager) scheduled a 1:1 with me on Friday and she expects me to have questions.
What should ask? I'm already being trained by my peers, so I don't really understand the dynamic.

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. Wants me to figure it all out despite cases being from different areas of law.

I’m a new associate working for a well-known defense attorney in my state. On one hand, I’m thankful for the opportunity to learn from one of the best, but he also excoriates and belittles me for my mistakes. Any advice on how much it tolerable? I am here to learn and advance my career but he can be pretty nasty. (My mistakes are no worse than you’d expect a 1st year associate to make, in case you’re all wondering if I’m a major screw-up who deserves it) I leave work feeling a foot tall.

What is everyone's Monday routine? Looking for ways to get things off to a good start with my team.

My manager was sharing screens with me a week ago, and by mistake, he overshared some of his bachelor party plans. Now he is all embarrassed. I think his plans were funny, but I don't know how to don't make it awkward anymore. Any advice?

Realizing that at the end of the day, performance is down to who likes you as a person.

I’ve been working for 3 years and noticed that if you like someone as a person, everything annoying or wrong they do, you brush to the side as a quirk. But if you don’t like them, it’s amplified as incompetence and flaws.

I’ve been at a job a year and have what I would call a very toxic manager. When I first started they were very nasty to me making comments about my appearance, my character and other inappropriate and mean things. We are about to be at our busy season but I want to leave so bad. Should I wait until after the busy season or leave asap?
