Happy holidays everyone! I hope that you get a restful break with family.

As a recruiter, what’s your favorite way to decompress during the holidays?

Not reading resumes!

funny

haha

Love this question—especially since decompressing is such an underrated skill in fast-paced industries. For me, it’s long walks without my phone and reading something totally unrelated to work (usually fiction or food writing). Curious what others swear by—I’m always collecting low-effort reset ideas.

Oooh I love that! No screens is the best way to unwind for me. Exercise or cleaning while listening to music is my way to unwind.

Binge-reading resumes by the fireplace… just kidding, hot cocoa and forgetting my inbox exist is the real MVP.

Switching from commission to salary!

I’m considering a less sales-oriented role that doesn’t pay commission. The new role will have a higher base but lower overall earning potential.

What % haircut should be expected? As an example, if I make 100k (base + commission) today, would it be realistic to ask for 90k (10% cut) + equity to make up the difference?

I have 2.5 years of experience as a BI consultant primarily working with SQL and Power BI. I feel a little underpaid while currently making $75k. All of my performance reviews have been positive and I have been the lead/only BI developer on two of our largest and most public projects this year. Any thoughts on what I could ask for at end of year reviews for a salary increase?

I had a very positive experience interviewing with Amazon for an L5 Technical Writer role. I originally applied for a lower level writing role, ending up acing my Loop, and was passed on to speak to the hiring manager for the L5 role.

Given the positive tone of our conversation, I expect to receive an offer this week.

Can somebody tell me what kind of base salary/bonus/RSU ranges I should aim for? I'm transitioning to tech and have 10+ years of professional writing experience. PNW based.

Hi! I started at a new company 2 months ago and while I’m really enjoying my job so far, I’m having a hard time gauging whether or not I’m doing a “good job.” My role seems to be always evolving, which is fine and I actually enjoy being a support to the greater marketing team, but I feel like I need better defined targets to make sure I’m meeting expectations. Also, when I ask my boss what they’d like to see, I don’t ever get a clear answer. (Cont’d in comments)
