Happy Mother’s Day!

My wife works remotely (we live in Illinois but her employer is in NY). Will she be eligible for New York Paid Family leave in October when the baby comes? We lived in NY for 6 months of the year, not sure if that helps the fact pattern. The employer is based in NY with the rest of the employees in NY and my wife telecommutes to the NY office daily.

Does anyone work in a work culture where your boss views herself as a mother, her employees as children and then refers to your colleagues as “sisters” and “brothers” and hints that everyone can call her “Mama Bear”. Please share thoughts on this.

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

My boyfriend has been living with me for 8 months. He has not offered to pay rent but pays the cable bill and for groceries. He makes jokes about me starving him. I eat breakfast earlier than him and do not want to cook breakfast for him again after I’ve started working. For him, breakfast is not food or a meal. I typically make huge dinners 2-3x/week that can last 2-3 days. He does not cook. He has done the dishes a handful of times and cleaned the kitchen. He feels forced to do something nice

Do people treat you differently because of your age based on your rank? I’ve always been considered the “kid” on my projects even by people of lower ranks because of my age and young face.

I feel like every time my daughter has her monthly check up she comes down with something right before. Either stomach virus, blocked tear duct, cold, COVID.. etc. Is it normal for my child to be attracting (what seems like) all minor (and some not) sicknesses in the world before she turns one? She’s also not in daycare and has a nanny.

I’m hearing a lot about people who don’t have kids finding that they are being treated unfairly and I really feel for that. But as someone with kids, I feel like I get it from the other side of the spectrum, where people forget I have them and expect me to turn things ASAP in the evening. It’s not enough to just provide parental leave; I want to not just have my children but also spend time with them!

Looks like B4 partners makes the most $$ in the long run, even tech/FAANG or industry level senior roles doesn’t pay more then $600-700k, except a few roles like ceo/IB/PE/other financial roles/startup rsu (of u r lucky). Came to the conclusion after reading all the posts in this and other bowls. May be MBB, but if u add pensions, I think B4 is better. Thoughts?

My therapist just told me I'm depressed..do you ever feel like they tell you things you hear a lot or could have figured out on your own? Like take care of yourself, it's ok to feel such and such, etc. I'm still newer to therapy so wondering if that's the common experience?
