Has anyone left their firm for government and then returned to their firm after some time? Have an offer at an agency where I’ve wanted to work for a while (not DOJ but will be arguing in court pretty regularly). I really want experience on my feet but the idea of leaving biglaw is stressful, especially the possibility of permanently closing the door at my current firm (which I like overall, other than the fact that in-court experiences for associates are extremely rare).

It happens all the time in the places where the experience can be monetized (SEC enforcement, FTC, etc) but you have to do it at the right point

Be careful that if you move now you’ll actually be getting that standup experience -I know someone who went too junior and was doing pretty boring junior work, but I think (?) she was right out of clerking. Just make sure your actual job offer has clear timelines for doing what you want to do and that you’re happy with those

I know several people who left their BigLaw firm for government enforcement work (DOJ, AUSA, State AG, etc.), and returned to a different law firm about 5-10 years later.

A select few were able to return to their original firm, often as counsel or partner.

So I was offered a role in Strategy Consulting in after 2 years in Risk Consulting however, after 2 years I’ve only worked on Internal audit engagements few ad hocs such as updating risk register and the delegation of authority matrix.

Honestly speaking I am doing good and I am up for promotion in October however I am not fully enjoying my time but I fear that the move would not be a good and I can’t hit the ground running which scares me.

Anyone have slow months where you burn through a lot of your allotted pro bono/professional development hours to keep hitting minimum daily hours? The past few weeks have been like this for me.
