It happens all the time in the places where the experience can be monetized (SEC enforcement, FTC, etc) but you have to do it at the right point
Be careful that if you move now you’ll actually be getting that standup experience -I know someone who went too junior and was doing pretty boring junior work, but I think (?) she was right out of clerking. Just make sure your actual job offer has clear timelines for doing what you want to do and that you’re happy with those

I know several people who left their BigLaw firm for government enforcement work (DOJ, AUSA, State AG, etc.), and returned to a different law firm about 5-10 years later.
A select few were able to return to their original firm, often as counsel or partner.
My firm brought an antitrust person back as a partner. She left the firm to work for the FTC when she was a senior associate
