Yep, I have and a few tips:
1. Your instructor matters. Give thought to that when selecting in-person courses.
2. Fantastic opportunity to network. Depending on the course, and your comfortability with networking, you can find a lot of great people in your industry (quickly) that have common interests.
3. Take advantage of creating an index as you move through the material (or shortly after). Even if you don’t take the certification, which you probably will, having that as a reference was incredibly helpful: hxxps://tisiphone.net/2015/08/18/giac-testing/
4. Taking a course that’s paired with a ‘Summit’ is another great way to meet/greet. You can usually talk more with other students and course instructors as well as see decent presentations. The downside is the additional cost, so weigh that wisely.
These are the top things that come to mind and, truthfully, I’ve opted to SANS OnDemand for some courses depending on how much time I wanted access to the material.
It's all over priced. Don't ever go unless your company pays.
Wouldn't bother unless your employer pays for it. Gone to two myself.
Depending on your skill set I would look at a 500 level course if you want more technical things
The in - person class was more of a networking opportunity and a chance for you to get signed up for lots of spam. I didn't really feel like I learned much in-person versus taking the course online.
