I recently interviewed for L7 EM at Google and had 4 great interviews and one not so great system design. I submitted external referrals all of which gave great feedback. The recruiter said the next step is team match/interviews and then the HC. Anyone in a similar situation? What was the result? Google
I have worked on multiple Google projects and tools, ranging from spreadsheets to Google Data Studio. Basis familiarity with the Google systems, I have applied to endless jobs in the organisation. However, I have no idea why is it sooooo difficult to even get an HR call for the screening.

Be articulate, know exactly why you want to switch, the value you will add at McKinsey and before asking right away for a referral see if he can introduce you to a few folks to expand your professional network. Build on him as a contact over time and then ask for a referral.
Send a thank you later in the day.
I would take a different / more casual approach, and view as a call as opp'y to learn about McKinsey and this persons work there. Would set agenda/objectives up front (show you're structured), maybe spend last 5 minutes asking what recruiting process is like for experienced hires
