Have an offer for associate at McK as an experienced hire which I am grateful for, but bonus seems off from quoted norm. Details are 165k base, 30k sign-on, 7.5% retirement, but bonus is 15k annualized. Offer letter says this is rated at strong for first year and then will be re-evaluated. Is this a normal associate variable comp amount? Offer is in Ops service line if that matters.

Do most firms start reporting years in September or January? Prior firm did an August year for counting hours and then another did January (both Amlaw 200). Looking at an Amlaw 100 to lateral in the fall (so trying to anticipate how much of the year I’ll have). I’ll ask what bonus/reporting year but just curious if most follow the same.

Is Operations paid the least at your respective firms? I was hired to a Client Service Delivery role with a heavy focus on project management. Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

What firms do higher variable comp? I’m familiar with A&M’s model, but curious if there are others. Figure if I’m busting it, might as well get compensated for it.
