Have opportunity to interview with Google, but unsure if i would accept an offer rn if offered. Thinking might be good to have an offer/interview exp in back pocket for later. Proceed or no?

I find job interviews are most useful when you’re a little skeptical about taking the job. Then it’s a proper two way conversation instead of just you begging for the job

likehelpful

Go have an honest conversation in the interview about why you’re looking to leave and what they’re offering. It might be a great fit, it might be a not right now but let’s stay in touch, keep an open mind.

Google offer stands for 1 year. Interview with them and if you don’t want to join right now, wait for some time and see if things change..

like

I'm not sure if that's true for non-technical folks. Technical people go through team matching which is why their offers can be effective for so long. business people are usually interviewed for a specific role in a specific team.

Honestly not ready to exit out of consulting yet and suffer the pay cut, but would like to keep the door open..

Google underpays non-tech folks.

Are you just talking about base or are you talking about total comp?

Only if you don't negotiate. You gotta go in with competing offers and raise that equity grant.
