So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

Yeah man I got laid off because I had to dip out of a project for a week when my dad passed away. Hit the ground running applying to all different kinds of jobs as I always wanted to know what else was out there. Had a chill summer and then got promoted twice in 4 years and now I make 4x as much. You got this 💪

Please tell me you have sent a picture of your W-2 to your old manager/supervisor.
Sorry to hear you lost your father and sorry that all happened, but super pumped to see you came back strong.
In my 20 years of career, I have been laid off 4 times. I was sad for a day or 2, but after that I just focused on my next step in my career. I can assure u that ur next off will be better. First layoff at 80k, got a job for 95k. Second layoff at 140, got the next job at 150k. Third layoff at 190k, got a job for $420k tc. I just focused on the next step.. and keep moving forward. Feel free to dm.
I think my message was not taken in the Right context so let me clarify. My comp is NOT $420k but it is higher then the last role. 420 is another way of HIGH. It’s not the number itself.. it about what it means.
first of all, sorry that you had to experience it but surprisingly it's not end of the world and most people end up in better places because some are just too passive to voluntarily explore new opportunities. I hope you end up in better hands that will respect and care for you.
My contract lost the recompete and it brought me back to the job market. Blessing in disguise because it made me realize I was getting underpaid

Vacationed for 6 months while not so seriously looking for job. Used up my saving
Relax and don’t take it personally. You might take two steps forward. The job hunt is the most depressing thing in the world. I was day drinking and smoking cigars for a good while.
Get on a certification for a skillet right away. You simply cannot look for jobs all day, not more than 3-4 hours.
Which company started laying off again now? I thought every company is on hiring spree nowadays?
It does not matter and no one cares. Just don't lose your confidence. This is the best time for it to happen since the market is hot. This is a career enabling moment for you to find your next opportunity where you will actually be able to grow!!! Yay so exciting and congratulations!!! Read the book Comebacks. Jamie Dimon was laid off too and look where his career is now. Every set back is an opportunity to make an even stronger comeback!!!
This is where I learned the hard way. I took one layoff way too personal and my confidence took a major beating, and that shows up during interviews.
Take a few days for introspection, identify things you could have controlled and can improve for next time, and move on.
And moving on could mean immediately looking for a job or taking time off for yourself. Good news is you qualify for unemployment and hopefully you received a nice severance to hold you over.
Best of luck.
TLDR: Life will work out if you don’t let it work you.
I got laid off from a medical residency (not for any patient harm or anything so don’t go there) after 4 years of Med school and 4 years of a very competitive residency. Literally thought it was the end of the world. Earth shattering. Now I’m in an amazing spot, I’m happy, my life doesn’t suck, and (though meaning less than the rest) I make just as much now as the rest of my former coresidents do as practicing physicians.
Yup, 2 small kids, a high spending stay at home wife and a new mortgage in a big house he just bought. Never go over the wrong VPs head in the spirit of getting shit done. I stressed out for 4 months, landed a horrible job out of desperation, year later left that job and took a worse job, 7 months later took another job and ended up quitting that one. It was the classic downward spiral! Got a divorce, found a great company and life is great now. The layoff shook me, I didn’t know how bad until years later, it really really broke something inside of me.
Rising Star
For what it’s worth, my boyfriend got laid off from the last place he and I worked, and they gave him 2 months of severance. I got to stay, but I ended up quitting voluntarily a few months later because I hated it so much. Towards the end of my time there I was hoping and praying to get laid off because I was miserable but quitting wouldn’t give me any severance pay.
My boyfriend ended up at one of his dream employers within 2 months of his layoff.
Sometimes a layoff can be a blessing in disguise. Best of luck to you!
It happened to me and was totally unexpected. I took 2 days to feel sorry for myself, then got super motivated. Use your Rolodex - it’s way easier to get a job when you have a connection or personal relationship. Looking back, it was the best thing to happen to me. Don’t lose your confidence or sell yourself short. You got this!
Relieved. Planned on leaving (though not during covid) and got a fat severance

Yep, twice in 15 years. Suck it up and use it for motivation to get a much better job! It rarely doesn’t work out for the best
I was laid off 8 months out of undergrad and was completely devastated. And it’s not an understatement to say that I wouldn’t have the success I have today if I hadn’t been let go then. Three weeks after my severance ran out I started work at a fortune five company, starting on a career path that led me to experiences (and compensation) that I had literally never dreamed of.
Take some time to think about what you really want, then do whatever you have to do (rewrite your resume, hone your interviewing skills, go back to school) to get it. And please be patient with yourself and the process.

Agree on certification.
I got laid off in Industry and got a job Consulting a week later. 30 k increase in salary. I always treated vendors with respect and used contact I had just met looking to place people at my company and called him the next week to see if he knew of anything. Be creative and network. The best way to find the higher paying jobs. As others have stated, the layoff was a good thing in hindsight but scary when it happened. Also, I had just bought a house so that lit a fire under me to find something quick.
Got extremely lucky and was laid off from some staff aug firm while I already got an offer from a T2. Was a best case scenario leaving with severance package and an offer at same time.
Got laid off twice - 2002 and 2014.
2002 - took about a month to find something else - even in the post-9/11 slump. Found a position making more than before. The layoff started a journey that would lead me to cyber 15 years later.
2014 - took 2 years off to go back to school full time. Got another Masters (cyber). Landed a job making more than when I got laid off (6 figures) and have doubled my income since.
This is recoverable.
Was at HP in 2013 and as you know that company went to shit, took a bit and taught myself programming and became web dev and took almost a year to find a job.
