Have you ever tried to draw a line with your boss after doing too much for too long? I feel like I’m at my breaking point and I can’t keep putting in these insane hours and taking responsibility for picking up other people’s slack. I’m just worried about them taking anything I say the wrong way.

Before you do that, I would try to see what direction they’re moving with the role. After they give you a response. Voice your concerns,

Example “Mr. Manager I’ve been at this role for xy years. I just need a little bit of clarity for what’s the big picture for me in this role.

Lead in with inquiry usually gets a better result and you can voices your concerns. Best of luck.

My boss had an “aha” moment when I started sending her detailed time summaries showing I was working 65+ hours a week every week. I used a tool called Toggl, check it out

My management asked me track my overtime last summer after I consistently had the highest utilization out of all our director's reports (over 120% almost all year). Hit 475 hours of purely project, operational, and training work 4-5 months into tracking and suddenly conversations changed to "tell us how we can help you, PLEASE" across the board.

How do you deal with a line manager who is focused on saving the company money at the detriment of losing trust and running the risk of employees leaving?

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. Wants me to figure it all out despite cases being from different areas of law.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

Got an email from someone who is supposedly wanting to hire my firm, but a few things are giving me pause: 1) I’m a rising third year, so idk why they are emailing me, 2) it just says “dear attorney” then the short message, not my name (though practice group is correct), 3) it is from a gmail email address, not the company. So… do you think this is real? I plan to forward it to a partner, but should I first send to IT to see if it’s even real? Just seems weird to me.

I started a new job last monday; this is my first corporate job after college. My senior manager ( my manager’s manager) scheduled a 1:1 with me on Friday and she expects me to have questions.
What should ask? I'm already being trained by my peers, so I don't really understand the dynamic.

At work do you ever describe who you’re dating without using gender specific pronouns just to avoid finding out if a co-worker is going to act weird about it? Lol

What are your thoughts about wearing chinos to work?

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?
