I’ve heard Greene (the author) speak. Brilliant man. In his words, this book’s not meant to be a how-to guide on becoming a manipulator, but instead a primer on how to spot the dark triad personality types, how to better recognize and understand hidden motives, and in general, how to play the game of life. I read it once a year.
I recall reading it years ago and not having that strong an opinion, but being more or less unimpressed. That's the thing with a lot of these pop management books, they come off as primers in burning people (and yourself) out. A good translation of The Art of War is probably the book to go back to. Another very old classic (though not nearly that old) is Reminiscences of a Stock Operator, a memoir by a real Wall Street character of the 1800s.
Trust your gut, the only reason to read this book is to spot those around you that use its tactics.
