Frameworks are a bit oversold but the principle that you need to be able to explain your response using a simple structure is a strong one.

So you explain ‘in order to increase profit, we need to organise your initiatives into revenue increasing ones and cost decreasing ones’.

Obviously for M&A or market entry cases it will be a different opening line. But the point is you explain a simple framework to the interviewer and then proceed in a way which means they don’t get lost. I do case interviews (as well as all the others) and it is soooo much easier to understand when they lay out a basic structure and then follow it.

‘That was the last revenue increasing idea, so now I’ll move onto the first cost decreasing idea as that also drives profit’.

That is what every interviewer wants to hear. Rather than some random ‘…and another thing’. Honestly sometimes I hear good ideas but they are so badly positioned I (and any client) would have preferred if they had just left it out.

So: keep it simple and easy to follow. Yes you can blow minds with your amazing ideas but you need to make sure they can keep up. They will be interviewing so many people, unless your idea lands properly they will discount it as weird nonsense.

I would add, it is useful to practice some aspects of frameworks. When someone says ‘what is the growth potential of this company’ you need to know straight away: current market penetration, growth of market itself, chance to penetrate further, competitors etc’.
That just saves time. For cost make sure you can also quickly name all the types of cost (non-exhaustive list): fixed/indirect: fixed labor, rent or building lease, insurance. Variable/direct: indirect labor, materials, machine cost, logistics etc.
You can Google all that.

Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

Hi
I have received an offer from a company and I'm in the second stage of interviews with another company. I am very interested to see if I could make it through for the second company. So can I accept the offer from first company and then if second one also sends an offer then let the first company know I would like to reject? Also i am on H1B visa. Should I be concerned with that?

So, I’m interviewing for a position that fits perfectly, HR likes my profile, had great conversations with them. Today I had a Panel interview with HR and the hiring manager. The manager is not experienced, it’s her first r manager role and she’s been in it for 3 months. I was prepared but was out of breath the entire interview, had a knot in my throat, had trouble finding my words. It’s like I had PTSD when this manager came into the picture. Ever had that?
