DDB got hit hard today. Don’t know exact numbers, but it was bad. Icing on the cake was that at 5:00, our CEO sent email out saying “tasks for today have been completed” and he will speak to everyone at 9:00am on a zoom meeting.
Meanwhile, everyone who was let go still didn’t have their email turned off yet, so they all saw this email.
Looks like all of the tasks were not completed....whoops
Just remember that you don't *have* to sign that agreement when you're let go. They'd still have to pay you the amount owed to you by law. Those agreements often come with some level of additional comp to buy that agreement... and if they don't (and you aren't worried about a future reference), you can negotiate or refuse to sign it.
DDB Chicago is a mess-nightmare that adweek etc should be looking into. This could’ve been an opportunity to rethink the entire model. Do we need a Head of Production? It’s not 1990. Can’t senior producers handle this now that most production is not at the multi million dollar Super Bowl level? Do we need a North American chief creative officer? Can’t ECDs handle their own business? if not why do we need that whole level? Couldn’t a lot of talented staff who work for our clients every day have been saved instead? Do we need a whole separate division and duplicate positions for Army? The people who have run the place into the ground this year did not take the brunt of this. PG first and foremost.
When you have information on where the bodies are buried, and the people in charge, do you avoid being laid off?
So glad I am not part of any holding company. Worked for nearly all of them and they are pure evil operated by folks who never made an ad.
And guarantee the wage cuts will not be reinstated when this is over. This is an excuse to lower all operating costs.
There is no way salaries get reinstated unless the employees demand terms for reinstatement in writing. Billings match what they were in January 2020 for instance. To accomplish this, all employees should be represented in a group by council.

Great flick
All omnicom agencies around the world are having layoffs since, you know, we’re entering a global Great Depression.
Time for Wren to take a real cut out of his $24 million per year to save jobs of the people who actually get the work done. Not just the dog and pony show salary line. That’s chump change for him compared to his bonus.
NY, SF or CHI?
Every US DDB office had layoffs today.
And BBDO apparently
BBDO is confirmed
All the Chicago Omnicom agencies got hit today
They fired excellent people like Greg and kept Paul Gunning.
BBDO got hit hard as do DDB
Not positive, but I think close to 40.
Things in DDB Malaysia are still manageable. We let go of interns and received pay cuts ranging from none at all (juniors) up to 30% (senior management).
