Love San Diego!! There is so much to see and do! Check out Breakfast Republic or Claytons on Coronado for breakfast. The Henry on Coronado is also really good. Coronado beach is pretty because the sand is sparkly! You have to see the seals at La Jolla cove and just La Jolla in general. Torrey pines if it’s open (it wasn’t last time I was out there in Aug). Balboa park outside the city is cool. Order take out, set up a picnic and go watch the sunset at sunset cliffs! Overall tons of things to do and great food everywhere, you really can’t go wrong.
To add to this great list, a few more suggestions: Encinitas (surf town) Julian (alpine town), Temecula (closest wine area). If you go to J Tree consider driving through Anza Borrego and/or the Pines to Palms scenic byway through the Palm Springs mountains
Favorite restaurants are Las Quatro Milpas, Tacos El Gordo, Bahn Thai, and Menya Ultra. I’ve never been to Lolita’s but have heard good things. You’ll have to check and see who is allowing dine-in. Some restaurants are still only doing take-out, even though SD has opened up.
Activities: Snorkel in La Jolla Cove then grab brunch at Sugar-Scribe, walk around Balboa Park then get dinner and a show at Panama 66, San Diego Zoo, whale watching, wine tasting in Temecula, Padres game then hang out in the Gaslamp, brewery tasting rooms, go up to Julian for some pie, hang out at one of the beaches in North County, spend a day in Coronado, Sunset Cliffs, Goat Canyon Trestles hike, Three sisters falls hike
Don’t bother going north of Oceanside (and honestly, don’t bother going to Oside unless you want to see the pier, which was closed last I was there). The LA area is an entirely different beast that warrants a separate trip. Even Temecula and Julian are far away and might be more trouble than they’re worth. Much to do in San Diego proper.
California burrito and carne asada fries at lolitas
Phil’s BBQ and Tacos El Gordo. Those places are fantastic.
Downtown SD has great restaurants, little Italy, mission beach, coronado beach, SD safari
There’s a fun hike near La Jolla / Torrey Pines down to black’s beach, also Potato chip rock hike
How is Dana point?
Where in San Diego are you staying? I personally love Coronado city, a bit quite it and actually see the whole San Diego from the other side. And if you like quite and away from people, then check out imperial beach, it's at the U.S./Mexico border. Also, Torrey pine is nice too
Ironside restaurant in little Italy is amazing.
