Hello guys. I didn’t wear a tie to an interview today. Boutique firm. Is this an autoreject?

You’re fired

No, not at all. Ties not necessary for interviews, though I would try to always wear a button-up.

Boutiques vary widely with culture. They could appreciate your balls/naivety or totally hate you for it…

Only hired to get fired next day. Jokes aside, a tie will not make or break you

Which boutique?

I have a job interview on zoom today. My mom will be in the living room with my six month old son and I’ll be in my bedroom. I feel so anxious that they’ll hear my son in the background if he cries or something. I keep thinking they might think I’m unprofessional. Writing this out to let my anxiety out a little.

Anyone willing to help me out? Review my resume?

I'm doing everything in my power to not quit without another job lined up, and every interview falls through. I'm overwhelmed by my clients, I've had enough corporate koolaid for a lifetime, I could not care less about what I do, and I've started exhibiting destructive behaviors at work but keep getting told I'm doing great.

If I'm going to be stuck here, clearly my attitude is the main problem. How have you learned to find joy in your job? What makes you feel like you matter here? Why stay?

Hi all! I’m an engineer working in the global health space and I’m finding it’s a small, small pool. I also just found out that a new hire (male, also an engineer) is the reason I got a raise after ~5 years of stagnancy. I love my job, but it’s time to move on. Anyone who’s worked in nonprofit spaces - did you stay? Did you switch to consulting/government/etc or go corporate? I’ve been applying without much response, and I’m debating whether a PMP very or masters is going to be necessary.

I’m currently at a medium sized tech startup. I was interviewing for a role that would be a bump in pay and title at a multinational public F50 company. At first, the hiring manager and head of legal were very complementary about my experience. Almost too much so. After a week of interviews with the team (softball-esq), I was informed that if I wanted to join, they would bring me on at a lower title. I’m not sure about comp yet. But if comp is still an increase + experience at a public..

I just listened to an interview of a creative director recount their path towards copywriting at a famous ad agency. It could not have been a more textbook case of failing upwards as a white man.

It would seem the only thing you need to make it as an advertising creative is to have lots of not particularly original ideas. Practically every other skill is unnecessary. If you’re a white man.

That this level of mediocrity passes for talent explains why so many agency briefs are so lame.

His mother apparently was very cold/rude to his ex-gf (I found this out bc I asked) and his sister is very cold and has a very judgmental attitude about women that don’t wanna be a wife & have kids (just like her.) I am worried I will not be able to climb the ladder because of my personality. Any tips on how women on the more introverted side of the spectrum have made it in consulting?
