I watched and learned other senior leaders who had a fast path to the top. Executive presence means different things in different work cultures. Sharp elbows are essential in some cultures, while it can be frowned upon in others. I paid attention to the context clues of success patterns and learned from others the workplace “code”. Every company has one.
There are some nice books on it and a lot of my friends tried executive programs from different universities to learn more about it and building a personal brand
Be well prepared whenever you have the opportunity to share value with senior leaders. If you are not getting those opportunities, ask for them.
Prepare for meetings by crafting better questions than answers, make learning your priority. Give clear instructions. Be interested more than interesting. Build relationships with senior executives, assume anyone can be a leader at any position. Practice walking and sitting at the table without hesitation.
