I would probably anchor on six months. I’ve never been pushed out, but this has been my plan should something happen. It’s enough time to buy a security net, Get through interviews, and be on board to a new job comfortably.

I think 4 weeks plus two for every year you have been there would be charitable. If it is a small company, would be very surprised if you got 6 months. No harm in asking - just be prepared for a lot less
Whatever it is, make sure you negotiate the payment terms…lump sum and not paid out in increments over the regular pay cycle. When D did their regular layoffs right before COVID, I heard the payments were every bi-week and not a lump sum. I don’t know if it had to do with avoiding having to pay unemployment on top of severance but I assume that is what it’s related to.
Getting paid out in increments is actually way better than lump sum. Because you will remain in benefits and not have to pay extraordinary cobra premium (like 1k a month).
When D had theirs it was paid every two weeks until you notified them that you had obtained employment elsewhere at which point they paid a lump sum. You stayed in benefits until the severance period was over
Also, never have a gap in health coverage and when you switch carriers make sure you get a certificate of credible coverage. Otherwise you can get pre-existing exclusion criteria applied to you.
