Depends on your market but why do you want to go into a mid sized law firm? I’ve been at a mid size firm for 4 years now (coming from another mid sized firm) and I didn’t go into big law because I didn’t have the grades for it. However, I still bill over 2,000 annually, work in a high stress practice group, am under a lot of pressure & get paid a fraction of the big law salary.
With that said, your signing bonus at my firm would look like 5-10,000. Salary for a 3rd year at my firm is about 130,000. Think long & hard before this making this decision.
That’s good to know! It will depend so much on the firm and practice group. See if you can join one of their firms since they can vouch for the ability to have a life outside work. A lot of midsized firms won’t provide that.
None at a mid-size. Salaries vary by firm and practice. The bonuses have mostly been for corporate at big firms. Some for litigation if in a high demand practice area like patent or employment but more rare.
Remember: mid size firms are not lifestyle firms. Honestly, most boutiques aren’t either, but they at least get closer.
I’m a second year looking to switch from big law to midsize and the signing bonus has been 10k
