Damn, your company really took the time and effort to interview and hire someone and your boss wants to fire him after 2 seconds for a sick day? You’ll prob have to pay severance and be short a worker? Your boss sounds like a dumbass. It’s hard to know the full context of your work environment and how much you have to interact with your boss and any consequences it’d have for you. I guess maybe I’d err on the side of just doing what your told, but it would be totally reasonable to go to bat for this person, it’s just a question of if your boss will be reasonable with you

Is the kid talented, have potential? Go watch a few episodes of Billions and Succession, take notes. Cap it off with Yellowstone to remind yourself the corp world is soft as baby shit. Then go to HR, have your boss eliminated, assume the alpha dog position and bring the new kid under your wing to run shit.
