Not sure if it’s different at EY vs EYP, but It’s rare we have people jump up into SM roles because that’s where your sales starts becoming a major metric. Usually people go from M —> M to build client relationships, get used to the systems, etc.
Not sure what EY scale is but EYP director 1s (Ms) make $205k base and it scales up from there, and a high performing D can actually out-earn low performing SDs with bonuses, which can be like 45% if you crush it. I think SD base is like $250

Joining as an externally hired SM in B4 is usually a bad move even in good times. Very low rate of success.
What’s EYP SD sales target? I don’t think there’s any, maybe for those close to make Partner

I used to work for EY and other big 4…in this economy no, but have seen it during post COVID recovery when consulting firms were hiring like gangbusters and took an experienced manager and hired them on as SM because of staffing needs.
Other route I’ve seen, if you were MBB moving to big four, then there’s move one level up usually
Is this HCOL?
Unreasonable yes - we hire (and promote) based on sustained performers at the hiring level NOT aspirations/stretch

It’s possible. But the right question is are you ready to be successful as SM at EY or do you need more time ?
