Hey guys I’m a lawyer working a NASDAQ listed tech company looking to transition into a role at FAANG. There’s a pretty exciting Google role available and the description seems tailored to my experience and previous roles. However it’s advertised as a Director level position. Can anyone guide me on how many years of experience is needed at minimum to be eligible for a Director level position at Google?

Director = ex fortune 100 senior person. Think ciso of Spotify, ciso of a bank, etc

Thanks! Definitely looks like I won’t be qualifying for it with my ~7 years of experience :(

We hired on a director from capgemini, he’s been working there for 20+ years and was an SVP. 7 YoE would get you L5, possibly L6 if you interview well.

like

A2 is partially correct.

Yoe mean nothing's here. So the statement that 7 yoe equals a specific level is incorrect.

They are correct in that most lawyers seem to come in as level 6. That has more to do with their experience and how they apply it to our problems

I think Director will be a challenge. I have seen people having very senior roles in industry such as VP or SVP and then getting a Director role at Google

Thanks guys for the feedback you’ve been really helpful. Guess Google is a no go for the moment :(

Don't count yourself out. Apply. You never know.

I have been working remotely since covid getting nothing but positive reviews. My company is not remote friendly and is now telling me I have to return to the office or I lose my job. I just found out a co-worker had a remote position created for them, without a job posting, without an interview and without the experience required (normally a license or certification would be mandatory). I understand life isn’t fair but is there an ethical problem with this?
