Are you trying to get out of tax? Or looking for an industry role?

If the latter, 3yrs is too short to make the switch. I left for industry after 8 yrs at EY as a director. Some of my reports now are those who left as associates/seniors they prob got a big jump in comp when they made the switch but its pretty constant in terms of comp.

Plus you do the same thing over and over in indistry so chance of growing to make it to an executive is unlikely. As bad as PA firms are, they do give you the technical training and wide exposure

Maybe try bootcamp for a career switch

If you don’t want to leave tax, you can do senior tax accountant or senior tax analyst. Just know you might stay as a senior a lot longer than PA, and raises won’t be as nice. If you’re not aiming high, then you should start looking now. Senior tax jobs aren’t as plentiful in imdustry.

If you make it to senior manager at big four can you leave and become partner or director at mid size firm? Is this hard to do? I know there is a lot of politics at big four and have no interest staying in a senior manager role for 6-8 years and risk a chance of still not becoming partner. Also I got a long way to go before senior manager fyi.

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)
