Hey y’all, I need CPE credits. My firm has a policy that even if ur not licensed, you need to do 40 hours. I am currently studying for CPA. Would it sound silly if I ask my manager if I can study during the day up to 40 hours only for the week and count that as my CPE? Save me the embarrassment if it sounds silly.

Studying for the CPA exam will not count for CPE for your firm.

You need to take standardized CPE learning in a classroom setting either live or virtual. Self-study for an exam is not counted as CPE. You should look at your company’s L&D website for CPE courses.

CPE credits are credits that meet NASBA and your state board requirements. You usually get a certificate of completion that certifies the amount of credits after completing an eligible course.

First-year tax staff that started end of Q3, and just had my first year-end performance evaluation meeting. Still a blank slate in terms of tax experience, but I honestly do have a slight interest in international tax. Brought it up and I was given some names to find some work opportunities in that area. Besides SALT, any other specialized areas I should try to get some experience in? Also open to any tips and tricks to help tailor my workflow and experiences for the months to come.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?

I am curious how Onesource Income tax stacks up against it's competition.

I like my current job, company and public accounting. I know I am being underpaid at $70k as a senior tax associate with 2-3 years of experience as I have talked with my local peers as well as local recruiters. Also, I know outside hires to my company get paid about $5-$10k higher than me, but they don’t get a raise the following year. My question is what is everyone’s experience with company hopping to get a pay bump within public accounting?
