That is true. As a design engineer your advancement will come to still and keep doing the same thing. As you advance into PM you gain variety of experience and when you start bring in money/new projects that is the only thing valuable to any firm. So sooner you learn how to manage and bring in new work faster your career would advance
Thank you for responding. My issue is that I hate the management/bringing in work side of the job. Know of anything else I can do with my experience that won’t feel so soul sucking to me?
Some companies offer a Engineering or Technical Manager position which is basically a PM minus the Project Management duties and responsibilities. Typically they focus on the technical aspects of designing and planning. That’s something to look into?
