Capital gains tax rate - I know there are diff rates (0/15/20) depending on income threshold but is the threshold based solely on “earned income” (i.e., wage)? For ex. if I quit my job and hv zero earned income and sell my stocks with 5M gain in the same yr, there would not be any capital gain tax?? It doesn’t seem right but is that the rule?

A councilmember would like to draft an ordinance allowing the general public to attend press conferences.  Currently, our local government does not have a policy regarding press conferences in place. But only members of the press are invited to press conferences. I have been working remotely since covid getting nothing but positive reviews. My company is not remote friendly and is now telling me I have to return to the office or I lose my job. I just found out a co-worker had a remote position created for them, without a job posting, without an interview and without the experience required (normally a license or certification would be mandatory). It will be very helpful if you can suggest with some reason.
