They offered to match my current salary when I was debating an offer there earlier this year, but there's really no benefit as it just means you max out on the pay scale faster.
Thanks for sharing! What was your salary that they matched?
They put me in the closest GS step that met or exceeded my current income. I ended up with a slightly higher salary than I had. The levels are very transparent. You can see the GS scales on the OPM website.
They offered me about 50K less than what I was making at the time. Gov work isn’t know for price matching / great pay. Even the benefits you have to be there for a good amount of time for them to really pay off and to justify taking the job, in my opinion. Good luck
No, you’re on a GS scale.
The GS scale is the “General Schedule” of pay for federal employees. It’s a way to make pay the “same” across the nation based on certain criteria. There are grade levels and then steps within each level.
When you apply, you usually already know what GS level you qualify for. The application will explain the qualifications of each level (years of experience, educations, etc.).
You increase through the steps at a certain set progression (i.e the first four steps are 1 year each or something like that). You can increase levels/steps via promotions.
