Hi fishes,
I am planning a switch so was going through some salary data for a software engineer. My ex-senior manager recommended me a website: Growceed.com which helped me a lot in getting clarification about a lot of things but I am in doubt whether the average salaries of software engineer mentioned on Growceed.com really that much in top MNC companies.

What does having high CTC have to do with getting fired. My CTC is 6x YOE.
My company has paid this CTC basis the title I’m at and my skills. The responsibilities they give are also while keeping this in mind. It is about what you bring to the table. If you provide results equivalent to your CTC, then why will you get fired no matter what your CTC is.
This is true according to last recession happened in 2008, people who are getting more than YOE*4 are been in top list, keep in mind the utilities towards the candidate will be beyond pressure who survived fired with such huge ctc regarding to there YOE,
simple you perform you stay if you don't you will be the first person to leave
If recession is upon us, then
If your CTC is high and you are not a billable resource, then you're gone
Support (Non Billable, like Resource or delivery manager) resource, CTC high, their Variable may be held. Or may let go. (50-50)
In every critical project, project managers keep few resources (Like 11th player in cricket) just in case if anyone resigns. These people will be out.
Service based companies will keep/retain doers for sure.
Product based companies if their budget is cut off, they'll let go allllll the team.
i personally believe these things..
- There is no recession for talent
- IT companies money model makes decisions
Example, product companies bread and butter is fee and licensing, so unless if they are getting money, they have less issue
- service companies are having 2 models,
1. fixed price
2. Time and material
for fixed price, IT companies like less played employees
for TnM, IT companies like high paid people (if they get reasonable rates from clients)
Note: No companies like to fire people
they might fellow below thing one by one
- stopping variable,
- stopping recruitment,
- try to utilise freshers to improve margin
- start giving 3/6 months time for low performers
- creating policies so that people think about alternatives (like forcefully work from office, transfer, less variable, etc)
- stopping people or revoking offers
- start firing unethical people (breaching security, moonlighting etc)
- if still situation dosen't improve, then not sure..
Lets hope for best, prepare for worst.. but again ask for what we are worth for..
Not to give wrong impression, but 2008 people have seen lots of firing..
Top management will be fired but its based on the shares in the company is there have more there can be fired
