I personally would take them at their word, and understand their offer to be the best and final, and I would only ask for more if I had another offer on the table flr more, but liked this company better.
It's an employer's market, the only leverage you have is a real second offer.
I’m terrible at negotiating so just take pleasure in knowing you can’t be worse than me. Early in my career I was once prepping to negotiate so all I kept repeating in my head over and over again was “that is very generous but I will only accept $10 (made up) for this role” or something like that. Anyway HR called me and wa alike “congratulations blah blah blah we would like to offer a starting salary of $30” to which I replied “that is very generous but I will only accept $10 for this role” HR was silent for a moment and then luckily pretended not to hear it.
