Yes, you should be getting all vaccinations, and an annual checkup with blood work.
Respectfully, You committed to this when you got dogs. And there are a lot of diseases that can be caught early on, monitored or even mitigated with these exams. It can prevent a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering down the road, and it’s ultimately a cost savings to you to catch these issues early on.
Budget accordingly - do the homework to find somewhere else cheaper or look at areas you can cut $200. That’s about $17/month. Plan ahead. These dogs are supposed to be your family members and bring immeasurable mental and emotional joy and it should be worth it to you to give them good care
Yes, it’s a small price to pay for peace of mind and preventative renewals. I think some pet insurance plans include cover the annual visit
I use nationwide pet insurance the reimburse exams and flea and tick medication as well as other services I pay 50 bucks a months check it out
They should also be getting annual vaccinations. One or two of my dogs vaccines are every three years but they still need to see their vet at least once a year. A good vet will ask questions and examine your dog to check for things you may have missed. That cost is nominal compared to the rest of the costs associated with having pets. There have been some months, including this month, that I have spent more on my dog than I have on my mortgage. Find a vet that you feel comfortable talking with.
They need to go, at the bare minimum, once a year for a check up and vaccines. As they get a bit older, every six months.
I can’t believe you are even asking this.
Advisor 1, try not to be judgy.
I pay at least 400-500 per month to the vet for my pups for allergy shots, butt squeezes, and nails, plus extra for whatever else they may need. Well worth the money.
Yes, but it just sounds less gross to say butt squeezes 🤣

You’re lucky it’s only $100 each! These annual checkups, rabies vax, immunizations and prescriptions for preventatives for flea/tick/heartworm are critical. It’s like your annual checkup except your dogs can’t tell you if something is wrong so it’s good to have them checked out.
Yes, these checkups are necessary to prevent worse issues down the road, both for your dogs and your wallet. Also I Strongly recommend that you get pet insurance. As your dogs get older, so your vet bills will get higher - speaking from experience 😖. Insurance will help lessen that blow.
One year they found my dog had contracted heartworm during the winter and we found out in our annual check-up. He had to go through extensive, and expensive, treatment.

Good to know. I assumed if there are no symptoms it might be okay but I will ask about those tests during the visit. Thank you.

Yes my girls get their heartworm tests done and vaccines. Since we live in the woods they get into everything.
$200/year? I wish lol

$100 each is a steal! If the cost is an issue, check around to see if anywhere near you offers low cost visit events. When I was strapped for cash I utilized services like that. It had discounted vaccines as well.

Thanks! Cost is not an issue, I was just trying to gauge if it’s necessary during the healthy years of their lives.

Thanks for those who have provided their perspective positively.
Those who are judging and “can’t believe that I am even asking this question”- feel free to stay away from this post. I have pet insurance for accidents and injuries. I spend more than $4k per year on dog training, insurance, dog walking and boarding. All the vaccinations (mandatory or not) are up to date for our dogs.
The only reason I raised this question is dogs are pretty healthy and a few of my friends didn’t take dogs to the vet between 2-5 years if there were no health issues. Our dogs do get stressed at the vet clinic and I would avoid it if it felt unnecessary. Anyway, we are taking them next week for the check up.
Yes you must absolutely have preventive medical care for your pets. It’s how issues are spotted early, and is required for flea/tick/HW preventatives and vaccines for rabies, bordatella, leptospirosis, etc.
