Good morning. I am currently a senior associate in BugLaw, and I have applied to several trial attorney jobs in Chicago offices of federal agencies since the start of the pandemic. According to usajobs.gov, my applications to the DOJ and CFTC were “referred,” and my application to the SEC was received and my GS scale verified. But I haven’t received any updates on these applications in over a month. Does anyone here have any insights on these or on federal hiring generally? Thanks!

I applied to 700 jobs during fall recruit. Got like 3 interviews. I don’t think it’s you. It’s just the market :/
Same! I've been contracting, too. Plus, founders typically don't fit the stereotypical candidate. Keep pushing!
Would you mind sharing your CV?
It’s just a tough market right now as we head into the election year. Most companies are settled with headcount, but more conservative businesses like insurance / finance seem to still be hiring. It’s more competitive than ever so I would say soft skills are just as important as whatever projects you’ve worked on. Interesting you haven’t gotten an interview yet, I would reach out to a few recruiters or contracting companies who have credibility.
Any names for recruiting companies or contractor agencies ?
I want to say that it's not you. I'm sure if you were applying 2 years ago. You would have several offers by now. This job market is very wonky. There are qualified people that have been interviewing for almost a year with only a handful of interviews.
