Put your calculators in a ziplock bag. Wrap it tight and use duct tape to take up any slack. Then you can wipe the baggie instead of the calculator.
I thought about that, but ours have to be charged nightly. We have put them in page protectors and Saran Wrap.
I bought a UV Sanitizing Wand at Lowe’s. I use it after every student uses a calculator. I didn’t like the idea of wipes being used a lot on the calculator, so I got this instead.

My students are using a phone app. If they don’t have a phone or it cannot be used, I am providing them with a calculator (I only have 2 students that have needed to borrow one).
For apps we are using Calculate84 on iPhone and calc84 on android.
On test day, we use the real calculators and I sanitize them between classes.
check new CDC guidelines- getting Covid from a hard surface all but impossible. Sharing calculators does not pose a risk.
Get either sanitizing wipes or the wipes you use to clean your glasses. Also, have them use hand sanitizer before picking one up and afterwards.
Ours use batteries so no need to charge.
We’ve gone to a spray that can be used on electronics. Also hand sanitizer.
It has been tough. I've been having them use disinfectant wipes but I know it is doing damage. 😞
I have the charging calculators also. When I go back, I have to hand the out and put them back. If the kids breathe on them I would have to clean all of the them. I may get a plastic protector. I’ll wear gloves for calculator distribution.
I have used wipes on my calculators for years. It’s not the wipes that destroy the calculators. It’s the pencil scraping the paint off when kids who are bored want to color the calculator. Also, lightly moist wipes not soggy.
I honestly have my kids use their cell phone. We all know they use it when doing homework and it is in their pocket at all times. May as well teach them something it can be useful for.
On a side note I have found that my leniency in this department compared to other teachers in my building has led the students to respect my rule about not using it for social media in class. Since I adopted the policy that they can have their phones out in class fewer of then are disengaging to state at their crotch. Lol
Use electronic graphing calculators. Have each student download on her/his device. TI-84 is online and there are others. Our laptops were sent home w/ Desmos already download on them.
We're currently distance, but if we managed to ever make it back to in-person I plan on covering the calculator in plastic wrap. Then I can wipe down the plastic without damaging the calculator.
