Honestly, I’m done with covid. I’ve done all I can do, the rest is in God’s hands. Come at me telling me about how I don’t care about anyone but myself, x y and z. I quarantined, masked, vaxxed. What else can I do? I’m going to start living life like it’s 2019 again.

It’s always hilarious to me when people equate wearing masks as living in fear. I don’t live in fear of skin cancer but I put sunscreen on when I’m gonna be in the sun. I don’t live in fear of dying in a car accident but I wear my seatbelt when I’m driving. Why does taking precautions mean that people are fearful?

likesmarthelpfulfunny

That's a terrible analogy. Masks are different and way more intrusive

Per the NYT, the 7 day rolling avg of COVID deaths is 270 per day (fewer deaths than we see each day from Alzheimer’s). At the height of the pandemic we were seeing 3K per day.

At this point it’s overwhelmingly a pandemic of the unvaccinated. As a vaccinated person, the pandemic is over for me. Obviously I could get a breakthrough case (as with literally all vaccines) but I’m not masking for unvaccinated people. They can stay home or wear an M95 if they are concerned about their own health. Not my problem anymore.

Y’all been wearing mask and doing quarantines? Lmao

What I find interesting is the fact that everyone who says, "Let's all wear masks" doesn't actually define what makes this mask an effective tool at combatting the spread of infectious diseases. Instead, we should just put *SOMETHING* that "looks" legit over our mouth and nose to make some others "feel" better about interacting.

These masks we all wear are not standard issue and there's too much variability in the masks we all wear to know how effective masks (in the general sense of the word) are at stopping the spread of particulate matter in the air. Because of the wide variety of type of masks (gaiters, surgical masks, respirator masks, etc.) and the wide variety of composition of masks (paper, cotton, poly, synthetics, etc.) and the density, the thickness, and the design and characteristics of those materials used to make these masks (how tightly woven or breathable the material is of said mask material, is the material anti-microbial or not, etc.) I cannot believe we truly have ANY idea how effective or ineffective wearing these caring face covers is at stopping the spread of airborne particulate matter past our own person. Not only does the variability int he makeup of masks matter to this point, but we have all seen folks "wear" masks in a variety of fashions.

Unless we standardize around all wearing N95 masks in the appropriate and designated way, the simple idea that wearing a face covering that is "socially acceptable" (so not just putting toilet paper and some string over your face) is anything but a comfort blanket is truly mind numbing to me.

In the end, if we wash our hands after EVERY encounter outside our "safe zones" and mind who we have close, intimate encounters with, we will be effective in stopping the spread WAAAAAAAAAY more than if we all wear face coverings and keep on keeping on the way we did before COVID was a known thing.

likesmart

Also, my point was not that face coverings cannot be effective, but instead that because of the lack of standardization around face covering makeup, type, and other characteristics around face coverings, there is no real data that can be created that says it was effective in stopping spread.

I 100% understand that they are working in a different way by taking care of the baby and being deliriously worn out in the process, but it makes me sort of jealous that unless I have a kid there is no life event that I can take ~3 months away from work to focus on and enjoy, plus have my hours prorated and a job to come back to.
