How are you guys optimizing credit card, banking and investment account setup? Optimizing for what? (e.g., simplicity? Points? Risk mitigation? My setup is… bank: chase credit card: amex gold, Costco card and bilt. Investment: fidelity for 401k, robinhood for taxable, Ira and Roth, and vanguard for 529. No good reason for this setup it’s just how it’s been for years. Would love to hear how yall are structuring things and why. Thanks!!!

I keep things simple - 401k, IRA, Roth, 529s, and personal investment accounts at Fidelity. Checking at JPM, with CDs/savings where rates are best. CC is Amex Delta Reserve because I travel a lot, mostly on Delta, and it helps me maintain my diamond status. No reason to overthink.

I just keep it simple. Use a large name brand American bank. Use large discount brokerages and be willing to change brokerages for a transfer bonus once in a while. Use one credit card with a high earning rate and simple redemption for all credit card purchases and change it infrequently.

You can get a lot of the benefit of complex setups without accepting a lot of complexity. Time and mental peace are valuable.

Uh, dunno. I am not really an expert in this area because I myself follow the single card strategy and therefore am not opening new cards very often at all.

New to this forum so definitely not an expert, but for my credit card game:
All free cards because I’m no longer in consulting and don’t travel as much anymore. I optimize for free / % cash back / simplicity.

- one is 2% on everything (so that’s my baseline),
- one is 3% on dining / groceries
- two are 5% back at the 2 spots I shop most
- I also try to maximize cash back when shopping online by issuing the various extensions that sell your data in exchange for higher % back (e.g., Rakuten)

Investing is 1) wherever current employer is and 2) where my advisor custodies accounts (one of the big platforms). No real magic there, kind of necessary.

like

I only really optimize for credit card points. Lots of work travel and expenses these days so I’ll churn the Chase portfolio when able since United/Hyatt are my most common transfers.

When not churning - CSR and CFU are my daily drivers, with a few scheduled expenses on other no-fee or low-fee cards that have solid benefits like World of Hyatt.

Checking: Chase
Travel card: Marriott
Regular card: Fidelity (2.5% cash back into brokerage account)
Brokerage main: Fidelity (kids, joint, money market, IRA, 401k)
Brokerage secondary: public (speculation, crypto, bond ladder)

like

This is great. I may replicate. 2.5% cash back from Fidelity is a strong pull. I only see 2.0% advertised. Is this older grandfathered feature?

How's your experience with bilt 2.0? Using for rent or mortgage or both?

Still trying to figure this one out. It looks pretty much worthless now

I open a new card every 3-6 months for the bonus. Combine that with award travel where you can multiply your point value and you get some sweet vacations.

Flying business class to Tokyo later this year with 9 of the nights covered. Gonna cover Scandinavia flights and 8 nights there too. Already planning some more cards for Rome next year.

Some people go harder, but I just do one bonus at a time. Put all my spend on that card until I hit the bonus. Since most cards come with a tracker, it's pretty easy to hit/track the spend.

I have calendar reminders 1 year out to either cancel or downgrade. I use an app called Travel Freely to track my cards but I used to use Excel.

Does anyone know the answer to this? - My first mortgage statement was generated on 11/2 with a due date of 12/1 and includes a month of interest based on the balance on 11/2. I made a principle only payment on 11/14 of $500 which was applied right away. Will the interest automatically recalc to reflect a lower outstanding balance for a portion of the month? I plan to do this every month.

All these weddings are blowing my mind and budget. I've had 5 weddings so far this year with several more to go by EoY. On top of that I've been asked to be in a lot of them which adds additional time commitment and cost. The cost of a bachelor party + shitty men's warehouse suit rental + travel and airbnb for the weekend + couple hundred bucks for wedding gift means I'm blowing tons of money for these weddings but I feel bad to say no.
