I looked into this before, and it seems the general consensus boils down to two options:
1. Knowing someone or networking your way in
2. Pivoting by getting a top 25 mba
Not the easiest but it seems that networking is feasible, there are plenty of people with the “right” background and experience that are interested in strategy however so the barrier to entry is pretty high for an outsider. Not sure about intercompany switching since I see you’re at EY however.. happy hunting!

I did it through networking but it took over a year and I entered just at the end of the consulting market peak, so was also a “right time” effect too
This is for EYP-Strategy. I had to do a couple of case interview rounds (and pass) before the transfer could be approved. Currently, we are not really hiring as we are struggling to grow. This was not an issue when I joined
