How do i break into data science with an analytics background?

Hey fish, I started recently (within the last year) at post PhD level. I’m thinking about moving into pharma or biotech since I don’t think the ladder in consulting is right for me long term. How long do you need to stay in consulting for before making say 150-200k base in pharma/biotech?

I’m sure others have considered this, I really feel burned out on my specific subspecialty. For the most part I do interventional pain management. I am midway through my career, but I cannot in anyway see doing this for the future, it just doesn’t feel like I’m making a difference. I’m honored to be a physician and to help a handful of people, but any suggestions on changing specialties mid life? I have perhaps 15 to 20 years yet to practice.. I made it to regional manager for a franchise by age 22. Ran a successful financial practice & sold by the age of 33. Took 2 years off and built a health & wellness coaching platform for my wife (medical provider). Then, the last 2.5 yrs, have been a top producer in Saas sales as a senior account executive. I’ve been told I would make a great COO someday and I’m ready to take the next step into leadership. Who/what should I be targeting next?

How did you go about finding a therapist and/or coach to support you in your career transition? What value did they add, what would you do same/different if you had the time again and any other tips?

How valid do you think a Myers briggs test is for determining if a career pivot is the right move. I recently took one and the career suggestions from the results seemed to be things I was already thinking about doing anyway which was a pleasant surprise.

What are the real skills to learn to get a leg up for a new data job? Not the wishlists you see on career websites.

I am looking for a new job. I currently work with product data and I utilize vlookup and trim functions more than anything else. Including SQL queries that are already written for my needs. It's the same everyday and I'm done. I'm a quick learner - only earning 53k a year.

How should I move to tech as a ML Engineer? How did people here make the transition?
