Hi fellow fishies!
Can someone please explain what is “SUPPLEMENTARY allowance” in my payslip??? It is the highest in my entire payslip, more than basic salary. Basic is lets say ₹7 lac annually and supplementary bonus is ₹7 lac 40 thousand.
Can someone please explain why this exists in my paylslip, is it good or bad from tax perspective and shall I ask my HR to decrease it???
Please help asap.

Get a dr note that can qualify for Short Term Disability. I took 6 weeks off for rehab (alcoholism) and once HR saw the note, I qualified for short term leave, no questions asked. This was in US btw.
Good question. I don’t know what the key points are - but your Dr will likely know. My guy had been trying to get me to go to rehab for a while lol so we was very willing to

Ask your HR for an FMLA form. Take it to dr and talk to them about the need for time off for mental health. I have an FMLA on file for mental health time off - and it’s intermittent, so if I’m having a bad day I just take the day off. And then it’s protected under the law.

It’s illegal for anyone to give you a hard time. That’s a legal cause of action called “FMLA Retaliation.” It’s also on a need to know basis. Most larger employers have an FMLA Coordinator, who reviews the forms, keeps them in a separate locked file system. The Coordinator will then let the supervisor know (but the supervisor rarely knows the reason unless disclosed by the employee.)
I took a LOA at Deloitte, here’s what I know:
- immediately get with your doctor to talk about it, I have a naturopath because I don’t do drugs, but I believe any doctor with creds in the state will do. Also a psychiatrist I think? You will need to be “under the care of your doctor.”
- yes I was paid in full, MetLife pays my paycheck at this time
- make sure you are eligible, sometimes you have to work there a year first
- you’ll start with the first week on PTO
- don’t tell folks why you are leaving, it’s none of their business just say “I have some urgent family medical circumstances to deal with and am working with my doctor.” Seriously it is no body’s business but your own.
- during that time off, be ruthless with your schedule. Ie. Do nothing. Rest, exercise, eat well. Stay off your phone, don’t drink too much, revisit your hobbies, join a meetup, don’t sit on your couch too much, overall watch addiction like video games, porn, tobacco. Do yoga, meditate and take. Care. Of. Yourself.
- when you go back it’s still no one’s business where you’ve been. And guess what, it will be the same as when you left. So be prepared with ways to maintain personal boundaries. Decline meetings that are either too early or too late. Say NO a lot more. And if none of that works, get another job, which is what I did.
Hope that helps!
M1 of this whole post, me taking the time to explain to OP how to get out of this difficult situation, that’s what you choose to pick out? You okay? Maybe you should take a deep breath and consider addressing the negativity in your life that’s spilling over to your friends on FB.
And to clarify, I would say “don’t drink at all”, but I don’t recommend tackling everything all at once. All I said was don’t drink *too much*. I would be happy to talk about addiction and alcoholism but let’s stick to one topic at a time.
