It’s useful because it prevents people from exaggerating their work experience, which isn’t uncommon.

That’s a great perspective, I hadn’t thought of it that way before.
I understand the frustration. LinkedIn can be useful for networking and recruiter visibility, but it often feels like it has become a mandatory checkbox rather than a true measure of someone’s ability.
A strong CV, real experience, and how someone performs in conversation usually tell you far more than a polished profile.
I think many people keep a profile simply because some applications expect it, not because they genuinely value the platform.
One thing that helped me was focusing less on “looking visible” and more on tracking where applications actually led to responses, interviews, or silence. It gave me a clearer picture of what channels were worth the energy.
Curious if others feel LinkedIn genuinely helps them, or if it’s mostly become part of the process.

Yeah, that’s pretty much how I see it too. I get that it can help with visibility, but a lot of the time it feels more like a box to check than something that really says much about a candidate. I like your point about tracking what actually leads to responses too. That feels way more useful than just trying to keep up appearances on there.

I don’t mind.
