If you have email on your phone, they can tell where you are 24/7.

Hm I’ve noticed the Comp Portal app uses my location throughout the day. Assumed the firm was like using that info. Just looked at the app and it says it won’t store location or share it with the organization.

I would not personally risk working outside the country without permission from my practice leader. Yes, there are ways to tell.

I would assume via vpn?

If they really wanted to they could track your IP address and tell but there’s too many of us for them to do that for everyone every single day.

Lol I agree...

VPN

like

Timesheet but they only track it for tax purposes.

You’re supposed to communicate to HR or your people system for tax reasons when you move...

So they can tell if you work from other countries? I wanted to go to my home country and work for there for a month.

Don’t do that without permission. Huge issue

like

Our timesheet systems. They could use other accurate means but honestly dont want to look too hard. For example, the firm could probably track your computer and reconcile back to your WBS codes but the firm doesnt want to spend more money on data data that makes them spend even more money on compliance with state tax laws. They do just enough to show states they are trying and no more. We have groups that give this exact advice to client lol.

Have an offer in industry. It’s a relatively new company that is growing fast and lots of opportunity to move up quickly and make a difference. Salary increase wouldn’t be large but enough to make a difference. My heart wants to do it but there is risk involved - not as much stability as the Big 4 company I work for and I’m supporting a family. What do I do? Follow my passion or stay in the safe zone given things are still up in the air with Covid? I appreciate your opinion fishes!

So today I was promoted to senior associate after just over 5 years at the firm. But I still want to leave. So my question is this - how many months should I stay for the guilt (explained below) to fade away before I leave? Guilt - the firm allowed me to work remotely in another country as I pursue a postgraduate degree. There are better opportunities in this country and the salary I would get as a starting salary here can never be matched by the firm.

FYI - I have 2 kids, so that kind of pay raise is kind of a big deal.
