Hi fishes! I volunteer with The Art of Good, a creative collective helping small businesses affected by the pandemic. They are seeking a little help from a media professional. Need an SEM POV for a small business looking to change their name and relaunch their brand. This is non-paid. More about giving back while in-between gigs. :) If you can help out or want to learn more, please reach out to me via LinkedIN. Thank you!! www.linkedin.com/in/karenkohn/

You get to request your bonus amount?
In one week, I’ve seen an intern ask for 2 WFH days per week, another ask for daily taxis to and from Westchester to Manhattan, another asking for comped doggie daycare, and now here we have a mid-level creative negotiating bonuses. Wow, I definitely got screwed.
The average cost of leftover meeting food consumed over your last three quarters is how I always do it. So usually like $62, but it’s still in the mail apparently
You get a bonus?
You don’t get to “ask”. Bonuses are completely at employer discretion, and are tied to business performance.
It’s level of entitlement x # of trophies / years out of college
I suppose I'd use a calculator. But I'm not familiar with this particular study of mathematics. "Bonuses." Sounds foreign.
Sorry but this is priceless.
where do you work that you get to negotiate your bonus?
What’s a bonus?
None here either
Bonuses aren’t negotiable...
All, they could be talking about a signing bonus in which case it’s absolutely fine to ask/make suggestions. Things like EOY bonuses or spot bonuses are more likely to be at the companies discretion (unless there is an underlying method you can negotiation like % of sales, etc). But people laughing at this person are doing so erroneously. I’ve negotiated every signing bonus I’ve ever asked for and received. Or perhaps English is a second language and you’re trashing someone just trying to get an informed opinion. Either way, not a good look.
No. Is the implication that the comment does not apply to copy writers? Want to answer the question behind the question.
Where tf are you working?
Are you thinking of a raise? Nobody asks for a bonus. Your boss just gives you one. Thus the word “bonus.”
This is not far fetched. Early in my career I worked for the US office of a Japanese agency that routinely paid us one months’ salary at the end of the year based on agency and employee performance.
Recently I was at a shop that guaranteed bonuses every quarter for every employee tied to employee performance. It was nice. They weren’t big (max of 1.5 weeks’ per quarter) but if you were a rockstar you could get enough to buy a nice watch (or pay down some student loans).
I have had friends in senior roles (ECD and GAD equivalent) who negotiated for a minimum yearly bonus usually in the 10k-20k Range at agencies that had no customary bonus policy.
...and I have tried and failed to negotiate my own at such places. So YMMV and good luck.
I’d start in the one month range.
